Class 7 - Radioactive Material Inspections for the non-Level VI Inspector

This course will guide you through the transportation regulations for Class 7 radioactive materials. Anyone can inspect a transportation shipment of radioactive materials if they understand the basics. The inspection can be done with or without a radiation survey meter. This course will guide you through the basics from start to finish.

  1. Introduce the inspector to the regulations specific to Class 7 (Radioactive) materials.
  2. Provide the roadside inspector with enhanced knowledge and tools to help them complete a thorough roadside inspection on non-Level VI Class 7 shipments and identify appropriate violations in the HMRs.
  3. Provide a basic understanding of the science terms applicable to Class 7 shipments.
  4. Provide a basic understanding of radiation safety and inspector safety precautions during a Class 7 inspection.
  5. Review the CVSA North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria in Part III of the criteria and apply the criteria to roadside Class 7 inspections and the violations identified during the inspection.
